Edmonton police shut the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive between Callingwood Road and Lessard Road on Wednesday night as they investigated a deadly crash.
Police said the crash happened at around 6 p.m. on the western stretch of the Edmonton ring road, just north of the Lessard Road exit.
The 2015 Dodge Ram truck was driving south at what police said was a high rate of speed, when it lost control, entering the centre meridian and hit a light standard.
The 36-year-old man driving the truck was declared dead on scene. No one else was in the vehicle, and police said no other injuries were reported.
