The suspect is known to police and is described as a black man who is about 150 pounds. Police say the incident was not a random attack.

Neighbouring buildings were evacuated, and police provided West Edmonton Mall security officials with a description of the suspect.

A public school in the area was put ‘on alert’ as a precaution while a search was completed. Edmonton Public School Board says that means the school doors are secured, but the children can still move throughout the school.
