Group appeals wind farm decision

NEW RUSSELL, N.S. — A group opposed to a South Shore wind farm is taking their complaint to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.

The Friends of South Canoe Lake filed their appeal on Tuesday, according to a press release. They say the development will lower their property value, cause noise pollution and health problems.

“Even Health Canada has undertaken an initiative to investigate the health concerns at wind turbine sites across the country,” the group claims in the release.

The 34 turbine wind farm was approved by Chester Regional Council on March 14. About 20 residents attended the meeting to protest the development. The $200 million project is scheduled to start construction later this year.

The UARB has not yet scheduled a hearing to consider the appeal.
