HALIFAX – Municipal council in Chester, N.S., has deferred making a decision on whether to support a proposed $200-million wind project for the province’s South Shore.
About 100 people attended the second of two public hearings Monday night in Chester Basin on the South Canoe Wind project.

The project would feature 34 turbines between Vaughan and New Russell, and would generate enough power for 32,000 homes.
Residents who attended the five-hour meeting Monday said the turbines would be too close to their homes.

The project is being led by Minas Basin Pulp and Power, Oxford Frozen Foods and Nova Scotia Power.
There’s no word on when council will revisit the matter.
