EDMONTON – In a sign of spring as sure as crocuses, pussy willows and potholes comes word from the city of road closures to accommodate construction.

Starting Thursday and until July 31, Saskatchewan Drive between 90th Avenue and 101st Street will be totally closed while crews construct a retaining wall and install a wider pedestrian walkway.

However, the road will reopen to eastbound traffic June 1, Laura McNabb, the city’s transportation spokeswoman, said in a news release Tuesday.

Drivers are advised to detour using Groat Road, Scona Road or the James MacDonald Bridge during construction.

Also in southeast Edmonton, the city has announced that a portion of 17th Street — from 23rd Avenue to Silverberry Road — will be totally closed effective Tuesday until Sept. 1 for road widening.

Drivers can detour using 34th Street or 50th Street.

Arterial road widening means that Ellerslie Road between 50th and 62nd Streets will be totally closed from Thursday until Oct. 18.

As alternate routes, the city suggests either Anthony Henday Drive or 23rd Avenue.
