Four people have been fined after they entered a restricted area around a bear trap in the Glenmore Park area of Calgary.
The bear trap was put in by Alberta Fish and Wildlife after a bear was spotted in the park earlier this week. In an update Friday afternoon, officials said the trap was being removed and the closure would be lifted.
“The bear did not enter the trap and no further activity has been reported to us in the Glenmore Landing area,” Alberta government spokesperson Brendan Cox said in an email.
Pathways had been closed and large warning signs and caution tape had been installed around the restricted area.
The government had previously said the trap would stay out until the bear was caught or no longer posing safety concern.
The fine for entering a closed area is $100, Cox said.
