It started when Strathcona County RCMP were investigating a stolen vehicle.
ASIRT said the silver GMC Yukon SUV was spotted and followed to a commercial address on Broadmoor Boulevard in Sherwood Park, where RCMP tried unsuccessfully to box in the SUV and arrest the three people inside.
ASIRT said the driver steered the stolen SUV out of the parking lot and fled. RCMP initially began to chase the SUV but were ordered to stop the pursuit.

About seven minutes later, a 911 call came in about a single-vehicle rollover on the Sherwood Park Freeway.
Dashcam video provided to Global News shows the SUV speeding towards an off-ramp, when it swerved right, then left, before losing control and violently rolling several times into the ditch.
Phanxay Vongsa was driving to work on his regular route when he witnessed the crash.
“I was nervous,” Vongsa said. “If I was 20 seconds ahead, he may have cut me off and got me or smashed (into) me. It wouldn’t take long and I didn’t even see him coming. They (were) going so fast.”
Moments later, two men are seen running away from the scene of the fatal rollover.
A 16-year-old boy was found dead in the front passenger seat of the stolen vehicle. The two men, aged 20 and 21, who ran from the scene, were found by police and arrested a short time later.
ASIRT investigates incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
In this incident, the agency will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the police interaction with the vehicle and whether it was lawful.
