Transit Police returned two children to their homes after they left a sleepover and took a ride on public transit.

Two girls, aged 10 and 12, boarded a Burnaby bus just before midnight on Monday. The pair were wearing pyjamas and were holding a handmade map of their planned route.

“Unfortunately, they didn’t realize how much potential danger they were putting themselves in, or the distress they were causing their parents,” Transit Police said in a Facebook post.

Bus driver Ed Boleak contacted Transit Police and officers brought the children home.

Transit Police said the incident serves as a reminder of why it is important for the public to report any unusual activity they see on public transit.
