Seasonal worker stabbed in back, undergoes successful surgery

Police in Kelowna said a fruit picker underwent successful surgery on Monday night after getting allegedly stabbed by a fellow seasonal worker.

The incident took place on the 4300 block of Old Vernon Road at approximately 8 p.m. Police and emergency medical crews rushed to the scene, an orchard property, where the victim was found conscious and suffering from a stab wound in the back.

The 31-year-old man was rushed to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

A 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police say he faces potential charges.

“RCMP continue to secure the crime scene, as investigators with the Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section await a warrant to search the property and gather physical evidence,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP said on Tuesday.
