Modified rifle, crossbow and hatchet seized by Prince Albert police

A variety of weapons were seized in two separate incidents this past weekend in Prince Albert, Sask.

The first seizure occurred when Prince Albert police stopped a suspicious vehicle on 3rd Avenue East at around 1:10 p.m. CT on Aug. 11.

Officers recovered a crossbow, a hatchet, a machete, 45 hydrophone pills, and cash. Almost 13 grams of a substance suspected of being meth was also seized.

A 37-year-old man was arrested. He faces three counts of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, and two counts of drug possession charges.

The man, from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, was scheduled to answer to these charges in Prince Albert provincial court Monday.

The second seizure happened on 9th Street East at around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 12. Officers were on patrol when they identified a man breaching his probation.

The 18-year-old man was arrested. Police said he was found concealing a modified rifle.

He is facing five firearms-related charges.

Prince Albert police responded to 292 calls for service and made 41 arrests between the night of Aug. 10, and the morning of Aug. 13.
