About $100,000 worth of a variety of drugs was found inside a suitcase at the Edmonton International Airport that was headed across the country last month.

On July 31, RCMP at the airport were alerted to a suspicious suitcase that was heading to St. John’s, N.L.

Police searched the suitcase and said they two kilograms of hashish, four kilograms of marijuana and a large quantity of pills including fentanyl, oxycodone, morphine as well as a number of other controlled drugs.

“This represents a significant seizure of illegal drugs and will ensure that these drugs won’t make it to the streets of St. John’s,” EIA RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Beth Philipp said.

Leo Francis Shute, 45, was charged with nine counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. His next court appearance is in Leduc on Aug. 16.
