As politicians scurry into the House of Commons for question period, members of the press gallery throw them questions about the day’s biggest stories or the issues weighing heavy on the minds and wallets of Canadians.
Sometimes politicians take a hit and come back with a direct answer. Other times the question is a narrow miss – answered with sarcasm, a witty comment or silence.
This week’s hot topic was Conservative MP Mark Warawa’s motion on sex-selective abortion. The motion sparked talk of a mini-revolt in the Conservative caucus after Warawa spoke out against his own government for taking him off the list of members’ statements, known as S.O. 31s. Warawa wanted to speak about his work on the motion.
No one was too interested in talking to reporters about the motion or whether it caused any caucus divisions.
More surprisingly, some avoided comment on the NDP motion for a national hockey day as well.
