Woman arrested at Abbotsford barn fire, no people or animals hurt

A woman has been arrested after a vacant Abbotsford barn was badly damaged in a fire on Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the property near Angus Campbell and Vye Roads around 10 a.m., according to Abbotsford deputy fire Chief Jeff Adams.

They arrived to find the chicken barn fully engulfed in flames, and activated the all of the department’s on-call firefighters. Six trucks eventually responded.

Fortunately, the barn was empty, and no people or animals were hurt in the fire.

Investigators are now looking into whether the fire was deliberately set.

A 50-year-old woman of no-fixed-address, who may have been suffering from mental health issues, was arrested at the scene, according to Abbotsford police.
