There will soon be more options for travellers at Hamilton’s airport.
Swoop, one of two low-cost airlines that operates out of Munro International, has announced winter flights from Hamilton to Las Vegas, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa Bay.
One-way fares start at $99, with service starting in mid-to-late October and continuing until April 27, 2019.
Dina Carlucci, Hamilton International Airport’s director of marketing and communications, is hoping the airport can change the travel habits of Canadians who’ve traditionally sought savings by flying from Buffalo.
Swoop will fly four times each week between Hamilton and Las Vegas, three times weekly from Hamilton to Orlando and Tampa Bay and twice weekly to Fort Lauderdale.
The discount airline launched in June with flights to five Canadian cities: Hamilton, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Halifax and Abbotsford.
Flair Airlines, which launched in 2016, also offers low-cost service between Hamilton and a handful of other Canadian destinations.
Carlucci says customers are responding to both carriers, with 20 per cent of the airport’s customers now coming from “outside our immediate area.”
She adds that after seeing passenger volumes grow by 80 per cent last year, Hamilton is “well on our way in 2018 with some other increases.”
