Ottawa Fire Services is commending neighbours for providing vital information to help fight the blaze that occurred Thursday morning.
Ottawa says it received a 911 call from a neighbour at 7:22 a.m. reporting black smoke visible from a duplex at 402 Ancaster Ave., which is located in the Carlingwood area.
According to firefighters on the scene, the operation was slightly hindered by clutter inside the home.
According to firefighters, bystanders said they saw the occupants evacuate the home.
The first OFS crew on scene confirmed that smoke was visible from the eaves and roof and a working fire was declared at 7:31 a.m.
Firefighters entered the home to find the source and location of the fire. Smoke conditions were confirmed on the first floor of the home and firefighters also searched the attic to see if the fire had spread.
According to firefighters, the fire was under control by 8:05 a.m. A fire investigator is working on finding the cause.
There are no reported injuries and the the Salvation Army and Red Cross are assisting one person who was impacted by this fire.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the callers who assisted us and remind everyone that when you call 911, you are our eyes and ears to the emergency,” said Ottawa fire in a release.
No damage cost has been released by investigators.
