Lillooet RCMP has confirmed one person has died and another person is missing after a float plane crashed on Tyaughton Lake near the small community of Gold Bridge.
The lake is about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet.
BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) said one person was also airlifted from the scene of the crash to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
It said a ground and air ambulance were deployed to the scene.
The RCMP E division Underwater Recovery Team is on its way to assist in the search for the missing person.
Mounties said the crash was reported just before 1 p.m. Police said calls to 911 suggest that multiple people in nearby boats were trying to rescue the plane’s occupants.
The Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre (JRCC) said the plane was found “crashed and partially submerged in water,” and that it had deployed a Cormorant helicopter and Buffalo aircraft from the Canadian Forces Base Comox to respond.
The JRCC said local volunteer firefighters were also deployed to assist.
