MONTREAL – In light of the mauling that took place at a Quebec Zoo on Thursday morning, by four-year-old tiger, Amurskaya, here are some facts on Amur tigers.
Amur tigers, most commonly known as Siberian tigers, are carnivorous mammals inhabiting far-east regions of Russia.
They are the largest living cat species. but sadly, according to the World Wildlife Fund, Amur tigers are an endangered species and there are approximately 500 left in the wild.
Their diet mostly consists of ungulates such as deer and wild boar, but also extends to other small and large species of mammals.
As beautiful as tigers may seem, they are also very dangerous and in some cases their natural diet changes and they become man-eaters.
