When the driver noticed police coming from the south with their lights and sirens activated, they drove up on a boulevard and continued driving south at more than 100 km/hr on the sidewalk, said police.

Between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Avenue, the SUV slammed into six fences and narrowly missed a 25-year-old woman.

The vehicle eventually crashed head-on into an apartment building at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Furby Street.

The driver of the stolen SUV then tried to escape on foot, but was taken into custody after a short chase.
