The St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation has moved one step closer to what’s being called a natural extension of its mission.
The foundation has broken ground on a 10-bed hospice in Dundas which will be named Margaret’s Place in recognition of a major donation from philanthropists Margaret and Charles Juravinski.
Foundation president and CEO Maureen Ellis says the end-of-life care facility will provide the opportunity for people to “live a quality of life until the time comes for them to die with dignity.”
She adds that many need “support and outreach programs and bereavement counselling for a journey that lasts a year or two years.”
So far, $11 million has been raised towards the cost of building and operating the 10-bed hospice.
The foundation is looking to the community for the last $2 million that is needed to get the Gift of Love campaign to its goal.
Ellis adds that they will soon be putting the construction contract out to tender and she’s aiming to open Margaret’s Place in the fall of 2019.
