A west Winnipeg recreation facility will undergo renovations that include a new carpentry shop and improved multi-purpose rooms.
The St. James Civic Centre will benefit from $3.9 million in funding from the province.
In addition to the carpentry shop and multi-purpose rooms, the money will be spent on an auditorium for fitness programs, a weight room and a drop-in computer room. The buildings will also see a refurbish.
The centre currently includes an indoor swimming pool and indoor skating rink.

“The St. James Civic Centre is an age-friendly place where people of all ages and cultures can meet and participate in many healthy opportunities,” said Connie Newman, executive director of Manitoba Association of Senior Centres in a statement.
“The centre is a place available to people both young and old to come meet others, to be socially connected, to learn, play and be healthy.”
The City of Winnipeg also broke ground on a new playground and improvements for Garden Grove Park, located at 2379 Burrows Ave. Those improvements include the playground, new swing set, sand box, pathway, park benches, picnic tables, trees and a new sign.
Those improvements are pegged at $145,000.
