Raymond Bachant is stepping down as the general manager of exo, the recently renamed transit authority that serves greater Montreal’s northern and southern rings.
He is leaving to “pursue entrepreneurial projects in the private sector,” the organization said in a statement on Monday. Bachant became head of the public transit authority in June, 2017.
Bachant’s departure comes a few days after exo said it could no longer guarantee service on the Deux-Montagnes and Mascouche lines as work on the new electric REM — Réseau express métropolitain — train ramps up.

Construction on all four lines of the REM is expected to last until 2023, when the new train system is scheduled to open.
Exo says executive director Sylvain Yelle will take over from Bachant until further notice.
“Exo will act quickly to engage a recruitment firm to initiate the independent selection process for its next general manager,” the transit authority said.
