KILLARNEY, Ont. – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is recommending the mandatory evacuation of an area on northeast Georgian Bay due to a forest fire.
The ministry says the fire — known as Parry Sound 33 — covers about 384 hectares and is not under control.
It is calling for the mandatory evacuations of the Key Harbour area on the south side of the Key River and the north side of the Key River, south of French River Provincial Park, as a precaution.
The ministry says the area is boat access only and recommends residents travel upriver by boat to Key Harbour Landing and then leave the area by vehicle.
The fire was discovered on Wednesday and the ministry says crews have been working for two days to suppress the blaze.
Ministry spokesman Shayne McCool says provincial police and conservation officers are in the area advising people to leave.
He says people are leaving, but it isn’t known how many are involved.
