Selkirk man dies after Highway 59 vehicle roll-over

Police said one of two men injured in a crash the evening of June 29 has since died. File / Global News

RCMP are investigating after a 41-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a crash on Highway 59.

The rollover occurred around 5:40 p.m. June 29, about 1 kilometre north of Scanterbury.

The southbound pickup truck ended up in a water-filled ditch, with its cab completely submerged.

A 35-year-old man from Hollow Water, Man. was able to get out of the vehicle, and the 41-year-old man, from Selkirk, was pulled out by passers-by.

Both were taken to hospital in Winnipeg. The younger of the two was released following treatment, but the older man remained in hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Police said alcohol was likely a factor in the crash. They are not sure whether or not seatbelts were being used at the time of the collision.​

It is not yet known which of the two men were driving at the time of the crash.
