Nicki Minaj sent Toronto-based writer Wanna Thompson a private message on Twitter in response to her criticism about her music.
On June 29, Thompson tweeted, “You know how dope it would be if Nicki put out mature content? No silly s**t. Just reflecting on past relationships, being a boss, hardships, etc. She’s touching 40 soon, a new direction is needed.”

Minaj responded to the tweet with a list of her own songs that she deemed as “mature content.”
Thompson then tweeted about the Chun Li rapper sending her a private message on Twitter. She wrote, “Nicki Minaj exhibited #Queen behaviour when she hopped in my DMs and insulted me numerous times over an innocent music opinion while her fans continue to harass me and DM me death threats. This is NOT okay.”
She posted a screenshot of the message Minaj sent to her. The rapper wrote, “When ya ugly a** was 24, you were pushing 30? I’m 34. I’m pushing 40? Lol. And what does that have to do with my music?”
Minaj continued writing, “Eat a dick, you hating a** h*e . . . Just say you jealous I’m rich, famous, intelligent, pretty, and go! But wait! Leave my balls! Tired of you sucking them.”

Thompson responded to Minaj, writing, “I 100 per cent stand by everything I said about your music and it wasn’t a malicious jab, it was a critique. I’ve seen multiple people come at you left on this app. Whether it be about your hair, your body or your music and I went to bat for you on numerous occasions.”
After Thompson posted the screenshots to Twitter, she began to receive a lot of hate from Minaj’s superfans.
She spoke with The New York Times and revealed she was fired from her internship with KarenCivil.com and has even received multiple death threats from people on social media.
The 26-year-old writer has been under constant harassment on all of her social media accounts, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and she’s been receiving hate email. Some people have even gotten a hold of her phone number.
“I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy,” Thompson told the publication, adding that she’s “physically drained” and “mentally depleted” from the entire situation.

The hashtag #IStandWithWanna started to trend following all the hate Thompson has been receiving from the rapper’s fans.

Minaj fans were left divided over the rapper’s reaction to the critique.
Some Twitter users were calling her actions “insecure and childish.”
Others felt that Minaj’s response was necessary.
Minaj has not commented on the matter since the private messages were made public by Thompson.
