On Wednesday police released a photo of the victim, as well as a description of the suspect, in hopes the public can help in the investigation.
Police said the suspect may still live in that neighborhood.
“People in the community know the suspect and you may have seen him in the area before and after the homicide,” Sgt. Wade McDonald said.
Police said Yurkiw was a son, brother and friend to many.
“He was a private person and an extremely hard worker. He worked at a local hotel as a cleaner and a DJ,” Sgt. McDonald said.
“His family wants and deserves justice.”
Police said a DNA profile has also been recovered from the crime scene.
The suspect is believed to be in his 20’s and is 5’7″, thin build, with short brown hair and a buzz cut.
He is believed to have been wearing a long-sleeve plaid shirt, grey in colour, and an aqua green coloured shirt under the plaid.
