Barrie police arrest suspect in connection with armed robbery near Schomberg

A 37-year-old man from Nobleton, Ont., is facing charges after he was arrested by Barrie police in connection with an armed robbery.

According to Nottawasaga OPP, on June 30, officers were notified of an alleged armed robbery at an Esso Service Station on Highway 9 in New Tecumseth, near Schomberg.

Police say at around 8:30 p.m., a male suspect entered the gas station armed with a sawed-off shotgun. Police say the clerk was able to escape to an adjoining room while the man helped himself to lottery tickets, cigarettes and an undetermined amount of cash.

According to police, the man fled in a vehicle. Using video surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify the man and vehicle.

Police located the vehicle at the suspect’s residence in Nobleton, however, the suspect was not there.

The suspect, 37-year-old Ronald “Harry” Haverlock of Nobleton, was ultimately arrested by Barrie police on July 1 on unrelated weapons charges. Police say the weapon was recovered.

Charges for the New Tecumseth incident are currently being processed, and Haverlock is being held by Barrie police while awaiting a bail hearing.
