Students have been hitting the books since September, and now they can finally take a break.

Thursday was the last day of classes for elementary students in London and Fairmont Public School opened its doors to Global News Radio 980 CFPL to hear from students themselves about their plans for summer vacation.

Grade 6 student Marin Hills says she’ll miss her class the most.

“I’ve had my teacher for three years and she’s my favourite and I’ve never had all of my friends in one class before so it was really fun this year.”

Aive Johnson, also in Grade 6, said he liked being with his friends this past year, but he’s excited to end the school year.

“Going to school, daily routine, just getting home, dropping off my backpack at the front door, and then just leaving it.”

What Aive is most excited about is going down to visit his dad in St. Marys where he’ll get to canoe and fish.

Sanabil Khan, meanwhile, doesn’t want the school year to end.

“I love school but at least I get to do work at home. My goal this summer is to make like a little dictionary for each subject.”

She added that her favourite part about the summer will be having her family from around the world come to visit.

“Having my cousins over from the United States and England and Pakistan. My birthday’s coming up so we’re going to celebrate it together.”

Classmate Jasmine Pihokker is excited to go to Canada’s Wonderland for the first time this summer while Brandon Polishuk plans to play with his friends, go to the park, and visit family.

High school students had their last day of exams on Wednesday so they’re now officially on summer vacation as well.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and be extra vigilant out on the roads as some little ones may let their excitement get the better of them and forget their safety rules.
