A 29-year-old woman from Toronto is facing several charges after she was stopped by police along Highway 400 in Innisfil.
According to South Simcoe police, on Sunday, June 24 at around 2:19 a.m., officers received a call about a suspected impaired driver heading toward Highway 400 in Innisfil.
Officers stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the southbound ramp of Highway 400 at Innisfil Beach Road. Police say a child was asleep in the back seat of the car.

When police asked the driver to provide a breath sample, the woman refused and was subsequently arrested and charged. Officers made arrangements for the care of the child.
Police say an officer was assaulted while trying to place the woman in the cruiser, however, the officer was not seriously hurt and did not require medical assistance.

According to police, the woman was transported to the South Division where during the investigation, a quantity of suspected narcotics was allegedly discovered in her purse.
Police have charged the woman with failing to provide a breath sample, assault with intent to resist arrest and possession.
Police say the woman was released with a future court date. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
