Red Deer man arrested for allegedly pointing fake gun at car dealership employees

A man in Red Deer was arrested and charged after an imitation gun was allegedly pointed at several people at a car dealership in the central Alberta city earlier this week.

On Wednesday at around 2:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a man with a gun at a car dealership in the south end of the city, on 50 Avenue.

RCMP said staff approached a suspicious man in the parking lot who had what appeared to be a handgun. He allegedly pointed it at several staff members before fleeing to a nearby restaurant.

A large number of police officers descended on the scene and the man was arrested without issue. Officers seized the weapon, which they then discovered was fake.

Robert Charles Richards, 35, was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, as well as one count of using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

Richards was set to appear in court in Red Deer on Friday morning.
