Search continues for missing boater near Bluffers Park

A search is continuing on Monday for a 27-year-old Toronto man who fell of a boat near Bluffers Park in Lake Ontario.

Toronto police said they received a call just before 10 p.m. on Sunday in the city’s east end.

Authorities said the police marine unit, the Canadian coast guard and a helicopter from Trenton were brought in to help in the search.

It’s unclear what the person was doing or how he fell off the boat.

The man’s uncle, Kanbepan Suppih, told media at the scene that his nephew’s name is Partheepan Subramaniam and that he was with a group of friends when the incident occurred. The relative said Subramaniam could not swim.

The missing boater immigrated to Canada from Sri Lanka at a young age, Suppih said.

“I took him when he was 10 years old, like my son,” Suppih said. “His parents are in Sri Lanka and their parents have been notified back home.”

According to his Facebook page, Subramaniam is a local DJ known as DJ Brown Soul.

Police said a ground search will also be conducted along the coast line on Monday.
