Montreal police confirmed late Saturday afternoon that a man’s death in the basement of an apartment building on 1 Avenue North, near Gouin Boulevard in Roxboro, is a homicide.
Police were called to the building at 9:50 a.m. Saturday after a gunshot was heard.
Officers discovered a man with gunshot injuries to the upper body in the building’s basement.

Despite efforts to revive the man, he was declared dead at the scene.
Initially the death was being treated as “suspicious,” but Montreal police spokesperon Benoit Boiselle said it is now being investigated as the city’s 11th homicide of 2018.
The victim is a 45-year-old man and Boiselle said a 33-year-old man, considered an important witness is meeting with investigators.

First Avenue remains closed at Gouin Boulevard for the investigation.
