A joint effort between Belleville police and the OPP led to the seizure of about 40 kilograms of cannabis in various forms on April 3.
Police released information Friday about the bust where they seized cannabis in several forms, including marijuana bud and marijuana shake. A further 104.5 grams of hash oil and 300 marijuana clone plants were found. Police say that they were able to obtain search warrants for three residences, two in Belleville and one in Quinte West.
Police also seized $1,600 in cash.
As a result of the search warrants, three men were arrested and charged with various offences. Joseph DiSalvo, 23, of Quinte West, was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. The police have not released the names of the other two accused.
The sale of marijuana is still not legal in Canada but should be sometime in the summer, according to promises from the federal government.
Despite the vague official date of its legalization, Kingston was recently announced to be one of the first cities in Ontario to have a legal pot shop, which will be located at the RioCan Centre at 770 Gardiners Rd.
