Two semi drivers have been charged in separate collisions on the Trans-Canada Thursday morning.

Around 7 a.m., a line of westbound semis had stopped because of poor weather about four kilometres west of Highway 1A at Kemnay.

As a couple semis tried to pass the line, one braked and the other behind it lost control, colliding with a number of trailers and a pickup.

The 40-year-old driver of the pickup was airlifted to HSC in Winnipeg where he is in stable condition.

A passenger of one of the semis is in Brandon hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Less than an hour later near Alexander, a similar story: traffic had stopped because of the weather conditions, a semi unable to slow down crashed into another trailer, causing a pileup that blocked the entire highway.

That forced Mounties to close Highway 1 from Virden to Brandon for hours, reopening in the early afternoon.

In this case, another passenger had to be taken to Brandon hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both crashes are still under investigation, but a 41-year-old from Saskatoon and a 31-year-old from Winnipeg each face a charge of driving imprudently, which carries a $203 fine.
