1 dead after multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 in Pickering

One person is dead following a four-vehicle crash on the eastbound Highway 401 collector lanes in Pickering.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday near Whites Road.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said three vehicles were traveling eastbound on the collector lanes when one of them sideswiped another and crashed into a stationary truck that was setting up a lane closure.

Police said a man was pronounced dead at the scene and another person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound collector lanes were closed for several hours just after Port Union Road for the investigation. It reopened at 8 a.m.
