Officials have issued a water quality advisory for Peachland.

Interior Health recommends that children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems boil water before drinking tap water.

For those at-risk populations, water for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making juice or ice, or brushing teeth should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute.

The advisory has been issued because of the level of water turbidity, which is tiny particles suspended in the water.

Turbidity is carefully watched in drinking water because bacteria, viruses and parasites can attach themselves to the suspended particles.

Particles in turbid water can also interfere with disinfection.

The turbidity of the water is more than one nephelometreic turbidity unit (NTU). The recommended level is less than 1 NTU.
