A human resources expert formerly employed by the City of London says she’s hopeful the third-party review of the corporation’s harassment policies and procedures will have the proper scope.
City council signed off on a nine-part motion Tuesday night, calling for a top-to-bottom review of the policies that are on the books and the complaints that have been lodged.
Catherine Burr worked for the city for less than a year between 2002 and 2003.
She was hired in the wake of a sexual assault case involving two employees but says she left because bullying and harassment from administration made it impossible for her to do the work.
Speaking with 980 CFPL, Burr says a critical piece of this review will be investigating accountability within the leadership structure.
“Who knew about workplace harassment, bullying? What did they know what did they do about it, or what did they not to about it, and if they did something, was it effective? That’s the accountability piece we need to see there.”
Burr says she also hopes the agency the city hires to run the review is from outside London and the process is transparent, not cloaked in secrecy.
