Francis is the first pope from the Americas, the first Jesuit, and the first named Francis, after St. Francis of Assisi.

The 76-year-old pope was selected as the 266th pontiff in a remarkably fast, five-ballot conclave on Wednesday.

The installation, or formal inauguration, is scheduled to take place at St. Peter’s Basilica on Tuesday.
