Police have laid a foot-long list of charges following a spree of armed robberies mainly targeting Subway restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area.
Toronto police said 16 fast-food restaurants, nine in Toronto and seven in Peel region, were held up between Feb. 18 and March 13. Police dubbed the suspect the “Subway bandit.”
According to police, the suspect would approach the counter and demand cash, showing the clerk a handgun. In several instances, the man would walk behind the counter and take the money himself.

An additional suspect was present during three of the robberies, police said.
Toronto resident Egal Wais, 21, was arrested on March 13 following a joint investigation by Peel and Toronto police. Police said a replica firearm was seized.
Wais faces dozens of charges, including 16 counts each of robbery, using an imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence and disguise with intent.
Yosef Ali, 24, also of Toronto, was charged with three counts of robbery and several related charges.
They are expected to appear in court on April 19.
