Edmonton police were called to a University of Alberta residence hall after a gun scare Friday afternoon.
A caller to the 630 CHED newsroom said there were reports of a man with a gun at Lister Centre.
An Edmonton Police Service spokesperson confirmed that officers responded, then “quickly” found and arrested a man with a replica gun after a student called in the report.
“This is something that is taken very seriously, obviously, with a lot of shootings going on in the United States,” Patricia Mokrzan said. “This is not something we would want to joke about.
“It’s something that can be quite disturbing for students and staff.”
Police aren’t sure whether the man is a student at the university, but said he is 20 years old.
The tactical unit was on standby; it’s not clear whether those officers entered the building.
