A suspect is on the loose in Guelph after a burglar was caught red-handed breaking into a Kortright Hills home late Friday morning.
Guelph police say officers were called just after 11 a.m. when the resident came home and spotted someone inside, but before they arrived on scene the suspect fled down Teal Street.
“The suspect smashed out a second-floor window and actually jumped out of the house,” said Const. Chris Probst. “We believe there was a distance where the suspect fled on foot and may have had bicycle stashed away somewhere.”
No one was hurt in the incident, but the suspect managed to get away with some jewelry from the home.
Police do not believe there is a danger to the public.
The suspect is described as a young man, wearing a black baseball cap, blue jeans and a black jacket.
Investigators are looking for any home surveillance video in the area of Teal Drive and Downy Road, and are asking residents to look through their system from about 10:45 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-823-1212 ext. 7193 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
