It is not known how the boat caught fire but black smoke could be seen by drivers going over the bridge around 8 a.m.

Witness Dennis Howitt told Global News he was down by the river for a walk when he saw the fire.
“I heard someone screaming and I saw the boat on fire so I ran over to the shore and asked her if there was anyone else in the boat and just directed her to get away from the boat,” he said.
