A local anarchist group has released a statement in response to Saturday’s mob vandalism on Locke Street.
In its Facebook post, The Tower states that the door to its Cannon Street building has been smashed in by “far right goons” who also trashed its free community library.
The group also states that “no, the actions on Locke and Aberdeen on Saturday night were not organized by the Tower, but yes, we support what happened and are in solidarity with those who carried them out.”
It goes on to say that “a family being evicted because of gentrification is far worse that the destruction of property” and “we have zero tears to shed for Locke Street.”
Hamilton Police Det.-Sgt. Michael Cunliffe confirmed on Tuesday that investigators have linked an anarchist book fair held at Westdale Secondary School over the weekend with Saturday night’s incident on Locke.

Police have not provided any details on what that evidence may be.
