Vancouver’s Mushroom Studios building sold – will hold final recording session

The home of Vancouver’s famous Mushroom Studios will soon be no more.

Artists such as Heart, Bachman–Turner Overdrive, Loverboy, Queensrÿche, Skinny Puppy, 54-40, Spirit of the West, Jane Siberry, Sarah McLachlan, and Tegan and Sara have worked there in the past.

The building has been sold, and despite the legendary recording studio moving its operations to Toronto in 2010, the Vancouver home was still used by recording artists.

But that will change after March 20, which will be the last day anyone will be able to record in the studio.

To mark the day the studios are setting up a ‘Live off the floor’ recording session and a video documentation of the day.

There are seven free one hour spots for bands to come in and record two songs (the studio says ideally one original and one cover tune by an artist that has recorded there in the past). Back line and engineer will be provided. Some instruments will also be made available.

The studios will be accepting submissions from artists until Friday March 15 at 8 p.m. Send your submissions via the website at www.mushroomlastsession.com . If you have any questions contact mushroomlastsession@gmail.com
