SASKATOON – Saskatoon MLA Cam Broten is the new leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.
Broten captured 4,164 of 8,284 votes cast on the second ballot at a leadership convention held in Saskatoon.
Broten beat out Saskatoon doctor Ryan Meili who received 4,120 votes on the second ballot and Regina MLA Trent Wotherspoon got dropped off after the first ballot.
Broten paid tribute to the other candidates for their work on the campaign which started last September.
Broten must rebuild the NDP, which holds just nine of 58 seats in the Saskatchewan legislature after being all but decimated in the 2011 provincial election.
