Power restored to six northern Manitoba communities

Manitoba Hydro has restored power to six communities nearly 12 hours after it first went out.

About 3,000 customers in Gods River, Red Sucker Lake, Gods Lake Narrows, St. Theresa Point, Wasagamack and Garden Hill lost power around 5:30 a.m.

Manitoba Hydro said in an email the issue has been isolated to a problem on a transmission line that feeds power into the area.

Crews are currently performing aerial patrols of the line to determine an exact location.

The line is about 150 kilometers in length.

Hydro said once they know the problem crews and equipment will be brought in to start the repairs.

Around 4 p.m Hydro tweeted residents in that area should prepare for an ‘extended’ outage and provided tips on ways to stay warm and safe.

Just after 5 p.m power was restored to Gods Lake, Gods Lake Narrow, Gods River, Wasagamack and Garden Hill.

The power has since been restored to all affected communities.
