Winnipeg’s public service says no to setting time limits on loud music

Downtown residents weary of noisy patios might be disappointed.

The issue of loud music emanating from restaurants and bars is on the agenda at city hall next week, and the public service’s report recommends Winnipeg not change existing bylaws.

Councillor Mike Pagtakhan had wanted to have loud music shut off at 11:oo p.m. on weeknights, and midnight on weekends.

The report suggests this isn’t necessary, as there are already measures in place to help combat businesses violating the existing neighbourhood livability bylaw.

Noise complaints can be reported to the city by calling 311, and are enforced by Community Bylaw Enforcement Services, Winnipeg Police Service or the Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The matter regulating excessive noise will be on the table at 9:30 next Tuesday morning.
