Regina city councillors have given a green light to have six cannabis dispensaries in the city, once marijuana becomes legal.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) will now be able to issue six retail permits to private operators in Regina.

During Monday’s meeting, Coun. Jerry Flegel voiced concerns over stores being close to schools in the city.

Coun. Bob Hawkins also voiced concerns over the city not knowing the costs of licensing.

“It’s just not right,” Coun. Hawkins said. “I’m opposed.”

The motion was passed in a 10 to 1 vote. Coun. Bob Hawkins was the only councillor who voted against the motion.
