The New York Rangers have acquired Oakbank’s Brett Howden from the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of a five-player trade.

New York gave up defenceman Ryan McDonagh and forward J.T. Miller in the deal. Tampa Bay also sent forward Vladislav Namestnikov, defenceman Libor Hajek, a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and a conditional first-round 2019 draft pick to the Rangers.

Howden has yet to suit up in a NHL game since being drafted 27th overall last summer. The 19-year-old has 22 goals and 36 assists in 38 games with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors this season.
