As always, after a school shooting there are calls for something to be done, so it will never happen again, but no one can agree on what measure that would be.

Columbine had surveillance cameras and Sandy Hook had a security system that meant someone had to let you in.

Some say installing high security would make the schools seem unsafe.

Some in the United States government want to ban weapons that automatically load the next bullet, saying civilians do not need them.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Some educators are more concerned with why these shootings happen and wonder if schools that are seen by some student as isolating might allow for more self-expression.

Others want tighter rules on who can buy weapons.

Some want more attention paid to threatening posts on social media.

President Donald Trump says he wants to focus on mental illness and better background checks.

Nothing is being done because no one can agree on what should be done and they discount each other’s suggestions.

If they can get Nikolas Cruz to tell them what set him off, it might, at least, be a start.
