YVR may not be Canada’s busiest airport, but it tops the list for the most undeclared cash seized from passengers each year.
Officials say from April 2011 to June 2012, over $15 million dollars of unreported funds were intercepted at the airport, with almost two thirds of that coming passengers traveling from China.
Compare that to $6.6 million dollars seized at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, which sees almost twice as much traffic as YVR.
Officials say despite the large amount of money seized at Vancouver’s airport, they rarely confiscate undeclared funds unless it is suspected of having criminal origins.
